Following Wednesday's jury's decision, Heard said in her statement, "The disappointment I feel today cannot be described in words. I am saddened that the mountain of evidence remains insufficient to stand up to the disproportionate power and influence of an ex-husband."
"I think Johnny's defense succeeded in persuading the jury to overlook the key issue of free speech and ignore evidence that was so crucial that we won it in the
UK."
"I'm sad I lost this case," Heard said. "But
I'm still sad because I seem to have really lost I thought it was for me as an American - to speak freely and openly."
She added, "I am even more disappointed by what this ruling means to other women. It is a setback. It turns back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke out could be shamed and humiliated. Violence against women must be taken seriously."
